Women's Religious Communities
There are many ways to
serve the Lord as a Religious Sister. There are many
different Religious Communities in the world today. Some
sisters work in teaching, health care, spiritual direction, campus
ministry, parish work, really if you can think of it, there is
probably a sister doing it! Not only do women choose an
active life of service, some choose to live a life of
contemplation as a nun. Religious sisters
are often referred to as "nuns." To be accurate, nuns are sisters who
live their life in a cloister. A cloister is a convent in
which the women intentionally do not have day-to-day contact with
the outside world. Whether active or contemplative, there
are many ways to respond to God's call.
If you think God may be calling you to be a Religious Sister, look
into the many communities that serve right here in the Diocese of
Syracuse. Their names and addresses are below. When
possible, a contact person is also listed.
Another place to
research is to see where women from Central New York have gone in
recent years. At the bottom of the page there is a listing
of Religious Orders with recent vocations from our area.
Also below, is a
"bulletin board" for current events to assist young women in
getting to know more about Women's Religious Communities.
