National
Vocation Awareness Week
January 10-16,
2010
Each year, the
Church is invited to celebrate National Vocations Awareness week
during the first week of Ordinary Time. The week begins with
the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus is strengthened for his
public ministry by the encouraging voice of the Father, "This is
my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." Our young people
need that same encouragement as they strive to embrace the
vocations God has in store for them. Consider these
possibilities for supporting vocations:
* Host a "Vocation Panel" for the young
people in your parish.
* Organize a Holy Hour for
Vocations.
Use this online program book.
*
Put Vocation Bulletin Blurbs in your parish bulletin.
Find new ones here.
* As a family, pray for persons who are in the
process of discernment.
* Promise your own daily prayer for religious
vocations in our diocese.
*
Encourage people 16 to 40 years of age (who
exhibit the qualities and virtues you have admired in priests and
religious who have been an influence in your life) to consider a
religious or priestly calling from God.
Many more ideas can
be found on the
Parish Resources Page.
